Hydraulic Response and Overtopping Performance of Single-Layer Double Cube Unit Armored Mound Breakwater

چکیده
A newly developed friction-interlocking armor unit called the ‘Double cube’ (DC) was designed to improve performance of a concrete used in river/marine structures against currents/waves actions. The DC is an octagonal-shaped block made up two parts: upper cube set on lower base that either square or octagonal shape. innovative design aims provide good terms stability, allow for high tolerance placement with various contact points, and ease placement. DC’s shape enhance unit’s stability by bringing center gravity closer underlayer providing large surface surrounding blocks reduces chance extraction limits movements (rocking, lifting) via “keystone” effect. characteristics this new relatively hydraulic number layer (NS = 2.9), favorable due energy dissipation from turbulence aeration, as well roughness coefficient (γf ≈ 0.46), helping reduce overtopping.

Rubble Mound Breakwater: Run-Up, Reflection and Overtopping by Numerical 3D Simulation
From the numerical point of view, the complexity of the fluid dynamic processes involved has so far hindered the direct application of Navier-Stokes equations within the armour blocks, due to the complex geometry and the presence of strongly non stationary flows, free boundaries and turbulence. In the present work the most recent CFD technology is used to provide a new and more reliable approac...
متن کاملArtificial Intelligence and Rubble-Mound Breakwater Stability
Breakwaters are coastal structures constructed to shelter a harbour basin from waves. There are two main types: rubble-mound breakwaters, consisting of various layers of stones or concrete pieces of different sizes (weights), making up a porous mound; and vertical breakwaters, impermeable and monolythic, habitually composed of concrete caissons. This article deals with rubble-mound breakwaters....
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Wave Overtopping Over Composite Berm Breakwater
Breakwaters have changed a lot during their design history. Overtopping is an important parameter that its evaluation and reduction has always been noticed. In this study, the wave overtopping of composite berm breakwater as a new conceptual structure has been investigated numerical modeling was performed using FLOW-3D software. Then, based on a laboratory model conducted by Losada et al, cali...

When studying the structural response of rubble mound breakwaters to wave loading, the knowledge of water surface fluctuations, pore pressure variations and related wave attenuation inside the porous structure is important since the pore pressures affect most responses, such as wave run-up, wave overtopping, reflections, transmission and the hydraulic and geotechnical stability of the breakwate...
متن کاملMaterials performance assessment of protective layer of rubble mound breakwaters, southern coast of Iran
This study aims to examine the performance of the rock materials in the protective layer of rubble-mound breakwaters in southern Iran, from Rostami Port in Bushehr Province to Beris Port in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. Field inspections were carried out on a great number of rubble-mound breakwaters built in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea coastal regions to study the protective layer of these...
